A Floral Dress for All Seasons

From barefoot beach days to winter layers, this dress travels with me everywhere I go

How did you acquire this outfit? I found this dress at a vintage booth in a boutique in Bryan, Texas, a few years ago. As soon as I saw the mega-bold floral print, I knew I had to have her.

Why is this your favorite go-to outfit? Because she's so comfy, she's a go-to travel dress as well as something I throw on without thinking in my day-to-day life. I love how long dresses keep your legs from sticking to train or restaurant seats during humid afternoons, but also keep you warm as the sun goes down — so I can truly count on this dress all day long. If I want to enjoy myself and lose myself in the moment, this is the dress I pull out.

Any other comments? Instagram’s pressure to constantly create “fresh” content has magnified the sense that repeating an outfit, or re-wearing a piece of clothing that is already “in the grid,” is a faux pas. As of this blog post, there are over 363 million Instagram posts tagged #OOTD, or “Outfit Of The Day.” Since I’m a proud Outfit Repeater, I thought I'd show you some of my Instagram posts featuring this dress. I've worn her all over the world, from Texas to Tuscany, and she’s shown up on my feed quite a few times.

Have you ever wondered what the perfect outfit for befriending every cat in Italy would look like? Look no further!

Pictured: Elise models her fave floral dress with black sunglasses, a burgundy scrunchie around her wrist, and a shopping bag on her arm. She and her friend—in sandals, jeans, and a puff-sleeve top—crouch down in a brick-lined, Italian alley to snap a photo of a black cat.

She doubles as a dress for lounging, so I snapped a photo when I was at home playing with some Euphoria-inspired makeup. And throwback to when I permed my hair — truly the best and easiest to-style hair decision I’ve ever made!

When we visited New York for a weekend, with lots on our agenda, of course I picked my comfiest dress to grab drinks at Mother’s Ruin with some friends. I remember this being a super busy day with lots of running from one place to another. I dressed to be ready for anything, but clearly we weren’t 100% ready for this photo!

Pictured: Elise and her boyfriend lean on a table at a bar with exposed-brick and wood-panel walls. Elise’s dress is paired with a ponytail and dangly gold earrings; her boyfriend wears a white tee printed with the message “no Dancing.” Both are looking at the camera with wide, surprised eyes.

She’s also an easy, breezy beach dress, so of course she came along with me to Puerto Rico, which was the last fun and photogenic thing I did before COVID hit. Where will I wear her next? Who’s to say, but she’ll probably end up back on instagram.

Elise wears a black, sleeveless dress printed with red and gold flowers and olive leaves, paired with bold, red-framed sunglasses. Her boyfriend wears a loose-fitting button-down, shorts, and a baseball cap.

Bonus: Winter Styling Alert!

I don’t really swap out my winter and summer wardrobes, because I love layering and have pieces I can’t bear to only wear in one season. If I love a piece, I will really wear the heck out of it. I wore this outfit probably to the post office or on some other similarly uninspired errand, and it was honestly a bit tragic that hardly anyone saw it, but that’s just the COVID way, isn’t it?
