Chrissi Burnett, Outfit Repeater Extraordinaire

Get to know Chrissi and her one of a kind lewks:
“I grew up in Cincinnati and became interested in vintage clothing by the time I entered high school. Remember the Beatles Anthology mini-series? That was my gateway drug. I became obsessed with the Beatles, 60s music, and 60s style in general. I couldn't get to the thrift store fast enough!
Once I discovered the secondhand world of thrift stores and vintage shops, I was hooked. As I moved from Cincinnati to Brooklyn, my style evolved, but most of what I wore was always either vintage or second hand. I started to realize that with thrifted and vintage clothing, I could assert my sartorial individuality AND protest fast fashion as it became more ubiquitous. By shopping secondhand exclusively, I was saving money, and reducing my personal environmental impact by wearing used clothing. This is something that I believe in strongly to this day.
I now live in beautiful & sunny Los Angeles. I have owned and operated an online vintage clothing shop for 8 years here. Currently I am on a hiatus from vintage vending and enjoying my other loves: craft beer, biking, and hanging out with my husband and cat. What does the future hold for me? I'm not sure, but I am excited to figure that out.
What makes this a Favorite Go-to Piece?
The star of this ‘fashion show’ is the Alaska eagle t-shirt. There isn't anything better than a t-shirt that fits perfectly. It can be styled so many ways, and this Alaska eagle shirt is a mainstay in my at home and travel (remember travel?) wardrobe.
How Did you Acquire This?
A good day at Goodwill. Sorting through every single t-shirt at the thrift store can be a serious undertaking, but finding a gem like this shirt makes it all worthwhile. I found these combat boots in a thrift store in Cincinnati. The floral skirt was also a thrift find about 15 years ago. I've worn it so much that I had to replace the elastic in the waistband a few years ago. The zip-up work boots are also a thrift find, and I found the jacket for $1 at a parking lot sale (I sewed on the roller skate patch to commemorate my days in a Brooklyn skating club called Sweet Action Skate Club). The red jeans, zip-up work boots, and cardigan are all second hand finds as well.
